Kessel D. Stelling Jr. Kessel D. Stelling is the Chairman of the Board, Chief Executive Officer and President of Synovus. He has been Chairman since January 1, 2012 and Chief Executive Officer and President since October 2010, after serving as Acting Chief Executive Officer from June to October 2010 while Richard E. Anthony was on a medical leave of absence. Prior to that time and since February 2010, Mr. Stelling served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Synovus. From June 2008 until February 2010, Mr. Stelling served as the Regional Chief Executive Officer of Synovus’ Atlanta area market. Prior to that time, he served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Bank of North Georgia, or BNG, a banking division of Synovus, having been appointed to that position in December 2006. Mr. Stelling founded Riverside Bancshares, Inc. and Riverside Bank in 1996 and served as its Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer until 2006 when Riverside Bancshares, Inc. merged with and into Synovus and Riverside Bank merged with and into BNG. Prior to that time, Mr. Stelling worked in various management capacities in banking in the Atlanta region, having begun his career in the industry in 1974. Mr. Stelling holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia and is a graduate of Louisiana State University School of Banking of the South. He serves on the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia and on the board of Georgia Power, the largest subsidiary of Southern Company, a public company, and one of the nation’s largest generators of electricity. Mr. Stelling also serves as the treasurer and as a member of the executive committee of the Financial Services Roundtable and as a director of several civic and non-profit organizations, including the Georgia Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Stelling’s extensive banking and leadership experience, along with his in-depth knowledge of our corporate strategy and day-to-day operations, provides our Board with an important resource in understanding our markets and industry and in effectively managing our risk.

Experience:
Akins began his career with Synovus at Sea Island Bank as a Commercial Lender in 1988. After serving in leadership roles at other financial institutions, he returned to Sea Island Bank in 1997 as President and Chief Executive Officer. He was named Chief Community Banking Officer of Synovus in December 2011, and Chief Retail Banking Officer in October 2014.

Summary of Responsibilities:
Akins’ responsibilities include Retail sales, service, and product delivery across the Synovus footprint, focusing especially on consumer and business banking, card and merchant services and branch network while partnering on the development of the company’s overall strategy.

Zack Bishop

Experience:
Bishop joined Synovus in November of 2018 as Executive Vice President of Technology and Operations. Previously, As Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer of Renasant Bank, Bishop was responsible for all digital operations, including technology, infrastructure, mobile and online banking, information security, and other internet and operating functions. He also had primary responsibility for integrating technology and systems of numerous acquired banks. Before joining Renasant in 2013, he held many senior leadership positions within technology, operations, mergers and acquisitions and digital innovation with Regions Bank. Bishop banking career began in 1994 at Union Planters Bank in Memphis.

Summary of Responsibilities:
Bishop’s responsibilities include technology, innovation, operations, security, procurement, property management, and vendor management.

Experience:
Blair joined Synovus in August 2016 as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. He was previously Corporate Treasurer of SunTrust, where he started in 1998. Blair held a number of positions at SunTrust, including director of the bank’s commercial specialty segment, and chairman and chief executive officer of SunTrust’s Georgia/North Florida region. He also held leadership roles in such areas as corporate strategy, line management, strategic finance, and credit risk management. Blair began his financial services career at Signet Bank in Richmond, Virginia, in 1995.

Summary of Responsibilities:
Blair directs the company’s financial operations, including accounting, financial planning, and reporting, budgeting, treasury, and tax. He is also responsible for Synovus’ overall financial plans and policies. Blair plays a key role in representing the company with the investment community, auditors, and investment bankers.

Experience:
Dowe was named Chief Communications and Corporate Responsibility Officer for Synovus in January 2018. She began her career at the company in 1995 as Associate Director of Corporate Communications, was promoted to Director in 2002, and later to Senior Director in 2013. Prior to joining Synovus, she spent time as a television reporter covering local and state government issues, and also led drug-free workplace and small and minority business development efforts for the Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce.

Summary of Responsibilities:
In her current role, Dowe leads internal and external communications, executive and senior leadership messaging, creative services, community outreach, and team enhancements for Synovus. She ensures overall messaging, strategic decisions and actions, and corporate donations and other civic investments appropriately align with and promote the company’s brand, mitigate risk, and protect and strengthen the company’s reputation. She oversees the development of multi-channel, comprehensive best practice communication strategies, including those supporting all lines of business; company performance; shareholder communication; local, regional, and national PR/media outreach; and those that foster a healthy and inclusive work environment. She directs the company’s social media strategy, crisis communication preparedness and response, and team member engagement activities.

Experience:
Helms joined Synovus as Chief Human Resources Officer in October 2017. He was previously with Genuine Parts Company, where he served as Senior Vice President of HR for the U.S. Automotive Parts Group since 2010. He also held positions as SVP of HR at First Data Corporation and as Global VP of Corporate HR and Communications at Newell Rubbermaid.

Experience:
Holladay joined Columbus Bank and Trust Company in 1974 as a part-time teller and participated in the bank's management trainee program. He also served in the Retail Branch network as assistant manager and branch manager. He was then named Vice President of Commercial Lending in 1984 and Senior Commercial Lending Officer in 1991. Holladay was appointed Senior Vice President of Commercial Lending in 1992. In 1994, he was named Executive Vice President of the Commercial Group, and in 1998 he was promoted to Executive Vice President of Banking/Client Delivery. In 2000, Holladay accepted the role of Executive Vice President and Chief Credit Officer. In 2008, he was named to the role of Executive Vice President and Chief Risk Officer.

Howard began his career at Synovus when he joined Columbus Bank and Trust as Vice President in 1993. In 2000, he was promoted to the position of Senior Vice President of Commercial, Correspondent, and Affiliate Lending. He was named Senior Vice President of Credit for Synovus in 2004. In 2006, he began leading the project of building out Synovus’ Commercial and Industrial Lending Strategy. Howard was named Chief Credit Officer in September 2008 and named an Executive Officer of Synovus in January 2010.

Experience:
Perry began his career with Synovus as Senior Executive Vice President at First Commercial Bank in Birmingham in 2007. A 30-year banking veteran, he previously held the position of Chief Credit Officer for SouthTrust, after managing the commercial banking operation for the mid-South market. Perry’s background also includes experience in loan production, credit management, senior housing, commercial and real estate lending, and private institutional real estate trust fund lending. Perry was named Chief Commercial Officer for Synovus in June 2010, and Chief Corporate Banking Officer in October 2014.

He is also responsible for management of Synovus’ Senior Housing Group, Equipment Finance, Middle Market Commercial Banking, and Corporate Banking areas. Wolverton began her banking career with Synovus in 2003 as Director of Accounting and Financial Analysis. She was promoted to Synovus’ Senior Director of Banking in 2011, and to her current position in 2014. Before joining Synovus, she served as Director of Finance for the BI-LO Center Arena in Greenville, South Carolina. Wolverton also worked as a Senior Accountant in the Assurance and Advisory Business Services Division of Ernst & Young in Greenville, South Carolina, and Atlanta, Georgia. Wolverton has been named one of American Banker’s 25 Women to Watch since 2015. This annual ranking recognizes women for their impact on their company, industry, and community-at-large, as well as for leadership and innovation in the face of industry challenges.
